Project Overview:

These clients were moving back to Ottawa and needed to renovate their house before they moved into it. The existing layout didn’t work for them; the kitchen was at the back of the house and wasn’t great for entertaining and the dining room wasn’t in an ideal location either.

Design Solution:

The solution in this case was to move the dining room to the front of the house where the living room was and move the kitchen to the middle of the house, making it the heart of the home. By removing walls, we were able to add a substantial island, creating a beautiful gathering space that is great for entertaining and day-to-day living. The dining room is now beside the kitchen, making serving and dining more convenient.

The window on the back wall was changed into two windows, making room for the range and custom hood fan in between. We added a ton of storage to create a place for everything in their modest house.

The living room is now occupying the footprint of the former kitchen and opens up to the living space. A gas fireplace with a stone surround and flanking bookcases in the living room add much-needed space to showcase books and family photos.

What our client said:

We just completed a major renovation with CPI, including a new kitchen, living room and two bathrooms. It was an absolute pleasure working with Natalie and her team on this project. She is an excellent communicator, prompt, responsive and detail-oriented. We were very pleased with the designs she came up with and the work of Zanyar and his team at Oneiric in turning those designs into reality. I would recommend them to all.
