Location: Ottawa, ON

Project Overview:

This empty room was the perfect canvas for transforming into an authentic wine cellar, designed to showcase the client’s extensive collection of wine and liquor. Their vision was a stunning space for both display and entertaining—and we brought it to life.

To blend timeless charm with modern functionality, we concealed the electrical wiring, allowing for seamless climate control. This approach preserved the room’s Old World aesthetic while ensuring the convenience of contemporary amenities.

Design Solution:

A blank slate and a client open to any idea—this project was a true creative adventure. The home itself evokes the feel of a grand castle, and the wine cellar with bar is no exception. Our goal was to capture the essence of an Old World pub, blending rustic charm with sophisticated design.

We achieved this by incorporating pressed tin ceilings, cobbled brick floors, and reclaimed brick walls, all of which create a rich, historic atmosphere. The heavily distressed cabinets and a custom heavy walnut door with an iron grate speakeasy opening set the tone, while the stained glass exterior door and transom transport you into another era.

Finding the perfect combination of finishes was both a challenge and a creative experience we don’t always get the privilege to explore. The result is a wine cellar that feels timeless, with every detail thoughtfully crafted to evoke the charm of a bygone era.
