Location: Ottawa, ON

Project Overview:

Ensuring functionality for both everyday living and entertaining was the primary goal in redesigning the kitchen. Transitioning to a great room style of living was crucial to achieving this balance.

Addressing electrical needs for the new appliances and under cabinet areas was essential for functionality. Additionally, the outdated tile flooring was going to need to be replaced with hardwood to match the rest of the area, creating a seamless flow throughout the space.

Design Solution:

Once we had determined that the electrical system required updating, we installed a new steel stud wall to accommodate the necessary wiring for appliances, electrical outlets, and under-cabinet lighting. Additionally, the decision was made to revamp the flooring by purchasing new raw wood for the existing parquet, which was then sanded, stained in a rich dark walnut tone, and finished to seamlessly blend with the room’s aesthetic.

Extensive planning went into the design of the cabinetry inserts and organization to ensure maximum storage and accessibility. To enhance the overall ambiance and functionality of the space, a stretch ceiling was installed, allowing for the placement of pot lights and facilitating the routing of plumbing lines across to the water line for the fridge.

The peninsula counter was extended across to the bookcase in the living room, providing a spacious surface for casual entertaining and food preparation, effectively integrating the kitchen and living areas for seamless interaction and convenience.
